After being out with in an injury for a while, Martin Barr came back this season with getting back into it on his mind and he’s done exactly that. Podium finishes every Round of the RedBull Pro Nationals, he’s proving that he’s still got it where it counts.
I caught up with the VMX Moto KTM rider for a few brief words at Canada Heights, seemed only fair as his van was parked next to mine..
Hows your weekend gone?
“This weekend at Canada Heights has been a tough one, I qualified pole which was first pole of the season but the first race didn’t last to long. I got about 5ft over the start line and got tangled up and went down so had a bit of work to do. I went down again and eventually clawed back to finish 9th. First moto of today didn’t get such a good start and had to come through from the back of the pack and eventually finished 2nd in it and the last race, I got a good start but its tough out there with the 450s, they can either got for you or go against you, it was just tough to get by them. Eventually I ended up 4th which gave me 3rd overall for the weekend. Its been really good to get back on the podium since I got back from my injury. I’ve been on the podium every weekend so I want to try and keep that streak going to the end of the year.”
You been named in Team Ireland again for MXoN, you stoked?
“Yeah, really stoked, its always a big thing riding for your country. This is my 9th year on the trott, first one in 2005. Its great to be on it again and riding the MX2 class so, really looking forward to it.”
You started making plans for next year?
“Nothing yet, obviously its early season, I’ve had a few people approach and talk to me and stuff. If I can keep on getting on the podium and getting good results, you know, the results do the talking at the end of the day. Its important for me to keep on doing that and see if anything comes available for next year.”
Sure we’ll see more podium action from Mr Barr in the near future.
